We deliver our work across three main areas:
Wellbeing & Care
We support people to stay active and connected to their communities and to maintain their health and independence so they live life to the full. We do this through a range of community-based projects with the help of a team of local and committed volunteers.
Community & Support
We work with voluntary groups so they can help meet the need in their local area and communities to access competitive heating prices through our Oil Buying Club.
Funding & Advice
We connect people who care with causes that need their help through our community fund, offer guidance to households to help them save energy and keep warm and provide advice to local meeting places and groups through our membership scheme.
Job purpose
As a key member of the Leadership Team, the Head of Fundraising and Communications will play a central role in shaping Community Resource’s financial and strategic future. This role is responsible for driving income growth through corporate partnerships, grants, trusts, tenders, and innovative income-generating initiatives. The post holder will work closely with the CEO and Trustees to develop long-term income strategies, ensuring a balanced and sustainable portfolio while leading creative strategies to engage new audiences.
In addition, the role will be the guardian of the Community Resource brand, maximising the charity’s visibility. Managing the relationship with any appointed external marketing support, ensuring that all campaigns are aligned with the Charity’s objectives and that all communications are fresh, engaging and targeted appropriately.
Role Responsibilities
- Management responsibility for the Charity’s fundraising, marketing and communications strategy, delivery and performance. Contributing to overall strategic direction and ensuring income generation is aligned with CR’s long term sustainability goals.
- Lead income generation from corporate partnerships, developing strategies to secure multi-year, high value funding agreements.
- Work closely with the CEO to cultivate high-value donors, ensuring that significant contributions are secured through a strategic approach to corporate and philanthropic relationships. Providing insight, guidance and leadership on funding strategies, risk mitigation and external engagement.
- Develop and implement a grants and trust funding strategy, ensuring successful applications to national and local funders.
- Oversee the development of grant applications and funding bids, working closely with the Fundraising Officer to secure a diverse range of income sources.
- Identify and pursue tender opportunities, leading and overseeing the submission of bids aligned with Community Resource’s strategic goals.
- Develop compelling business cases and proposals for corporate funders, grant-making bodies, and innovative projects, ensuring alignment with the charity’s mission.
- Regularly review and analyse existing income streams, identifying opportunities for growth, aiming to and ensuring a balanced and diverse portfolio that minimises risks and supports long-term sustainability.
- Build strong, long- term relationships with funders, corporate partners, and stakeholders, while and ensuring effective stewardship.
- Work with an external marketing agency to plan and execute high-impact campaigns, ensuring alignment with the charity’s goals and messaging.
- Oversee the development of marketing materials, impact reports, and case studies, demonstrating the value of partnerships and the charity’s impact.
- Lead, manage, and mentor the Fundraising Officer and marketing and communications officers, as appropriate, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and fostering a results-driven culture.
- Collaborate with service delivery teams to integrate marketing, communications, and fundraising strategies with operational objectives.
- Introduce KPIs and a performance matrix to monitor team contributions to organisational targets.
- Design multi-year financial forecasts, in collaboration with the Head of Finance, to align with strategic income goals.
- To support the CEO in their leadership of the organisation: interfacing with the Trustee Board; representing the Charity at external events; being a key voice in management decision making and direction; acting as a role model and learning resource.
Other Duties
- Represent Community Resource at corporate events and fundraising opportunities, promoting the charity’s work and building new partnerships.
- Stay informed about trends and better practice in corporate social responsibility (CSR), grant-making, and innovative fundraising, to bring appropriate changes into keep Community Resource to keep it at the forefront of industry standards.
General
- Be passionate about supporting those with barriers to achieve their potential.
- Possess a positive attitude, being prepared and willing to ‘go the extra mile’ (and lead others) to support the communities in need across the spectrum of Community Resource’s activity in Shropshire.
- Ensure, where appropriate, that staff and volunteers are involved in delivering our services, to the expected standards.
- Lead and contribute to the leadership and development of the organisation, and change as it is required.
- Working flexibly, be prepared to undertake some evening and weekend working when required.
- Undertake other relevant duties, in support of the organisations goals and leadership team needs, in consultation with their line manager.
- Complete any mandatory training in a timely fashion; maintain professional development, accreditation and learning as appropriate.
