We are the UK’s largest network of community groups supporting half a million young people to overcome barriers to reach their full potential.
The 3000 groups which Sported supports are deeply rooted within their communities and led by highly committed, passionate local people who often give up their time voluntarily to run initiatives that help young people from their community to succeed.
However, grassroots groups are often under-funded and under-resourced.
Our role is to empower the local heroes running these groups by providing much-needed professional expertise, resources and operational support, free of charge, to help their group survive and thrive.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver on the Fundraising Strategy, annual fundraising plans and income targets and meet the agreed income target and will support our organisational objectives (doubling our network over the next 3 years).
- Lead the strategic direction for all fundraising and stewardship aspects of income generation. To lead and manage all fundraising activities related to statutory, trusts, foundations corporates, individual giving, events, legacy, community and major donors.
- Cultivate, secure and steward funding and relationships through corporates, high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations with a focus on long- term relationships.
- Create clearly defined product offers (productise programmes) that meet the varied needs of corporates and benefit the Sported network, providing clarity, impact and scalability for funders.
- Part of the Senior Leadership Team and Board. Expectation of working with the Board members on prospects and partners; leading the Development Committee and providing updates and input to Board meetings.
- Work with the Head of Communications to create a marketing and comms strategy to support delivery of our objectives – building the profile of and making the case for Sported and the sport for good sector – including clearly defined engagement plan.
- Establish credible pipeline of +£250k per annum multi-year funders (short, medium and long term prospects)
- Achieve minimum of £1m incremental contracted new partnership (multiyear value) in each financial year, by increasing and diversifying revenue streams (expanding the funding pipeline), with a strong focus on new corporate partnerships.
- Keep track of corporate and third sector trends ensuring Sported relevance to emerging areas of potential alignment (e.g sustainability, place etc).
- Define and monitor measurement of progress – tracking pipeline movement, and conversion to highlight and respond to key challenges and opportunities.
- Undertake any other duties and reasonable requests that are in keeping with the nature of this post and to support the charity.
- Be a positive, empathetic team player that engages with all other colleagues across our organisation.
- Monitoring the performance of the fundraising function using a range of metrics and reporting on this in a concise and timely manner.
Person Specification
- An established track record of meeting income targets and building relationships with supporters at all levels
- Extensive proven experience of producing high quality and compelling proposals, reports and correspondence to inspire generous support.
- Experience of leading and overseeing budgets including setting, measuring and performing against KPIs
- Proven experience of successfully leading, managing and inspiring fundraising teams and creating a high performing and results-orientated culture.
- Inspirational leader who engages, coaches and empowers others through a clear vision, decisive action and role modelling of leadership behaviour
- Ability to move seamlessly between high level thinking, such as building businesses cases for investment in fundraising, to getting hands-on with day- to-day activity.
- Ambitious, creative and a determined strategic thinker who turns strategy into results.
- Strong track record of delivering targets, both financial and non-financial.
- Strong business acumen evidenced by a history of making decisions based on sound business cases that lead to achievement of desired outcomes
- Strong communication and networking skills with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels (Trustees, volunteers, partners, senior execs).
- Good understanding of the role and importance that CSR/social value plays in the marketing strategy of major brands/corporations.
- Ability to be both strategic and operational.
- Experience and ability to create income products and packages from the needs of our beneficiaries.
