Oxford Hospitals Charity supports the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Horton General and Oxford Children’s Hospital. About the role
Reporting directly to the Head of Fundraising, you will take the lead on operationalising fundraising plans across a range of key activities. As an experienced fundraiser and line manager, your proactive, collaborative and practical approach will oversee the delivery o f the individual giving, legacy, in memory and fundraising events income streams, achieving agreed income targets and exploring new activities and opportunities. With your three direct reports, you will be responsible for the development and management of budgets, plans, stewardship, reporting and evaluations for the
above income streams.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Fundraising to translate the new strategy into an actionable operational plan for the Core Fundraising Team, that maximises fundraising income and ROI.
- Lead and inspire your three direct reports and the wider fundraising team to achieve their best, ensuring that each team member has a clear understanding of their role in delivering the charity strategy and generating income.
- Provide oversight and strategic vision for the full supporter journey for Events, Individual Giving, Legacy and In Mem, with a focus on long-term supporter engagement, repeat giving and outstanding supporter experiences.
- In conjunction with your team, create, implement and oversee income and expenditure budgets, ensuring all activities and plans are strategic and cost effective.
- Utilise technology such as Dataro and DotDigital in your day to day working practice, making data-driven decisions to improve conversion KPIs and overall income generation within the team
- Take a lead role in hospital-focused fundraising, especially the fundraising sprints, co-ordinating activity with colleagues across the charity and within the hospitals
- Work collaboratively with the the Community Fundraising Manager and Major Gifts team to ensure fundraising across the organization is coordinated, supporter journeys are seamless and giving opportunities are maximized
- Oversee the development of a new regular giving proposition for roll-out in 2026, as a key component of successful repeat giving and conversion journeys, to maximise income and grow supporter lifetime value.
Hospital-focused Fundraising
- Work with the Head of Fundraising to deliver the charity’s strategy for increasing hospital-focused fundraising, initially through department-focused hospital sprints.
- Project manage each sprint through delivery and implementation, working collaboratively with the Hospital Engagement Manager and Programme, Major Gifts and Communication Teams to maximise supporter recruitment, charity visibility and income.
- Oversee the Individual Giving Officer with the development of the grateful patient mailing and subsequent departmental appeals.
Conversion journeys & fundraising products
- Develop and guide the strategic supporter journey across Events, Individual Giving, Legacy and In Memory to maximise engagement and impact.
- Utilise integration tools such as Dataro and DotDigital to build towards offering fully personalised supporter journeys.
- With the IG Officer, oversee the Individual Giving Programme, providing guidance and support to maximise the income generated through campaigns and appeals, and onward conversion journeys.
- Develop a new regular giving proposition, from concept through to launch and integration into our supporter conversion journey. Maximising uptake and retention, and working with the Individual Giving Officer on annual cash to committed and upgrade campaigns.
- With the Legacy & In Mem Officer, oversee the Legacy income stream, guiding activity to maximise legacy pledges and fulfilment by offering an excellent supporter experience that inspires long-term giving relationships.
- With the Legacy & In Mem Officer, oversee the in memory income stream, supporting the development of new products and giving routes, to maximise income and conversion to other income streams.
- With the Events Officer, oversee the delivery of the annual programme of fundraising events, ensuing that each event delivers an excellent supporter experience, with a focus on repeat giving. Together, exploring opportunities for new fundraising events and initiatives ensuring a good return on investment.
- Work closely with the Head of People and Special Projects to ensure all lottery players have a consistent and engaging supporter journey and opportunities for conversion are explored.
Line management
- Line management of three direct reports: the Individual Giving Officer, Legacy & In Memory Fundraising Officer and the Events Officer.
- You will be responsible for their performance, ensuring objectives are met and offering engaging career development through regular supervisions and appraisals.
Compliance and administration
- Ensure that all activity meets legal and administrative requirements (including the GDPR, Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice, audit requirements, internal financial procedures).
- Work closely with the Fundraising Operations Manager to ensure smooth and efficient execution of all donation activity.
- Work closely with the Database Officer to ensure record keeping is consistent and of a very high standard, maximising opportunities to learn about our supporter base, their giving behaviours and interests, and adjusting supporter journeys accordingly.
